  1. France is set to get the world’s most powerful magnet for a fusion reactor that aims to replicate the process that powers the Sun.Dubbed as Central Solenoid, the powerful magnet is strong enough to lift an aircraft carrier 6 feet in the air.
  2. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has entered a sponsorship agreement with MPL Sports Foundation as the ‘Principal Sponsor’ covering the Tokyo Olympic Games, 2022 Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.Amul also has come forward to support IOA for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The government on 17 June 2021 amended the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 to give legal recognition to the self-regulatory bodies for television.The amendment will provide “a statutory mechanism for redressal of grievances/complaints of citizens relating to content broadcast by television channels in accordance with the provisions of the Cable Television Network Act, 1995”.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has reduced tariff value for the import of edible oil by up to $112 (around ₹8,300) per tonne.It cut the tariff import value of crude palm oil by $86 (around ₹6,400) per tonne and of crude palmolein by $112 (around ₹8,300) per tonne.It also reduced crude soyabean oil’s base import price by $37 (around ₹2,750) per tonne.

  1. Former Karnataka all-rounder B. Vijayakrishna passed away in June 2021. He played 80 first-class and two List ‘A’ matches. In first-class cricket, he scored 2297 runs (at an average of 25.8) and took 194 wickets.
  2. Actor Frank Bonner passed away in June 2021. He was a part of the TV comedy WKRP in Cincinnati that aired from 1978-1982.
  3. Actor-cinematographer Shaman Mithru passed away in Chennai in June 2021. Shaman, who worked on several projects as a Director of Photography (DOP), made his acting debut with the 2019 film Thorati.
  4. Renowned Bengali theatre and film personality Swatilekha Sengupta passed away in June 2021. She was honored with Paschim Banga Natya Akademi award and the 2011 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
